Curriculum Intent
‘Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain
an artist once we grow up.’ Picasso

At Greenlands we value Art and Design as an
important part of all children’s entitlement to a broad
and balanced curriculum. We aim to give pupils the
skills, concepts and knowledge in order to express their
responses to ideas and feelings in a visual or tactile
form.

Our Art curriculum provides children with
opportunities to develop their skills using a range of
media and materials. Children learn the skills of
drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, 3D work
and digital art and are given the opportunity to explore
and evaluate different creative ideas.

Art encompasses many areas of the curriculum and gives the children the opportunity to express themselves in many ways. Children experience many different art forms such as drawing, painting, printing, textiles and collage.

Children are also given the opportunity to explore art through digital sources such as the internet and graphics packages. In school children study the arts and crafts of people from different times and cultures and are introduced to the work of famous artists. We encourage children to evaluate their own work and that of others. The art displays around school celebrate the achievements of pupils. We aim to inspire artists of the future!
