Year 5 2019 - 2020
Welcome to Year 5
PE and swimming
Swimming is every Wednesday. Your child needs a costume, towel and swimming hat.
PE is every Thursday. For this, they will need a t-shirt, a pair of shorts and a pair of pumps. They should be clearly labelled and left in school in a named bag on their coat peg.
This term we will be learning about Earth and Space. There are lots of children's websites dedicated to this topic as it proves a very fascinating subject for children at this age. They will be encouraged to investigate areas that specifically interest them such as the different planets and space travel. As additional homework, children will be asked to create their own model of the Solar System using whatever medium they wish. They can be as creative as they wish! Our trip to Liverpool Museum will include a visit to the Planetarium.
During our topic on the Rainforest we will be learning about the animals and palnts that can be found in the different layers of the Amazon. We will also be looking at the impact of the destruction of the Amazon rainforest on the rest of the world and exploring the reasons why this is happening.
Homework and reading
Homework is set on a Friday and should be returned to school for Thursday. Homework club runs on a Wednesday after school. Please ask for a place from Miss O'Sullivan via the school office. If homework is not returned on time, they will stay in on Thursday lunchtime to complete it.
Children should be encouraged to read regularly and their reading record should be brought into class to be monitored every day. They must read at least 3 times a week. Any child who does not, will catch up during lunchtimes the following week.
Please remember that jewellery and nail polish are not allowed to be worn. Stud earrings may be worn, but must be removed for swimming and PE.
Many thanks for your support,
